Ainsi le héros s'aventure dans le royaume d'Hyrule pour recouvrer sa mémoire perdue, en passant dans différentes régions comme la forêt, la plaine, la montagne, la mer ou le désert. Link doit dompter la nature et revenir à un monde purement sauvage dominé par de puissantes machines nommées "Gardiens".
